Because Today You Turn Two…

Last night I put you to bed and you were still only 1 years old. Yes you may have been 1 year and 364 days old… but I was still able to tell myself “She’s still only one years old”. But this morning, when I walked into your room and saw your sweet smile shine back at me, I had to hold back tears..Because today you turn two. Today you begin a whole new year of change and growth, both physically, emotionally and mentally, and I will have the privilege of watching my sweet baby girl turn into an amazing little person. In the last few weeks you have practically potty trained yourself, you have mastered saying one of your older brother names, and you have told me many times that you are “Two!” but I was able to say “Not yet!”

But today you turn two.

So today, on your second birthday, instead of feeling sad over my baby growing up, I am going to plan the future with you. So here it is, if I have anything to say about it 😉

First, once you are old enough to last longer than 20 minutes in a shopping cart, you and me, we are shopping buddies for life. The sooner you realize that red cart I put you in, with the bulls eye on it..is a good place to be stuck.. the better. That my sweet girl is called vacation! (at least for us right now, I hope to take you on more luxurious vacations too) but for now.. our destination is called T.A.R.G.E.T… Say it after mommy… Tarrrget. You will thank me some day.

Your big brothers.. okay here’s the thing.. you may have trouble dating one day, because I am pretty sure they may really hurt any boy that even tries to look your way..(and I cant lie, Mommy and Daddy are totally going to love this) but you.. well lets just say you will be frustrated at times, but what you will learn is when your brothers (and parents) DO finally let a boy talk to you, you will know its a good one. One they trust with your heart. As for you looking out for your brothers… I totally expect you to be my little spy. I want to know every thing, Capiche?

As for school, and a career one day… Sweet girl the sky is the limit.. You can absolutely do anything you put your mind to. I will support you in any way I can, and will help guide you as much as you will allow. There is no doubt in my mind, that what ever you choose to do, it will be something big. You already have such an adventurous spirit and seem to be afraid of nothing… So use that and dream big!!  Just don’t forget to call and visit your Mama.

Most importantly, don’t forget your faith. Always know God loves you and will always go before you in all that you do. Don’t forget to call on him, and draw near to him daily. Wear out the pages in your Bible and remember that with God nothing is impossible. Like the song goes “Never let your praying knees get lazy.. and love like crazy!”

But for today, stay little for as long as possible. Don’t be in a rush to grow up. I know you are stubborn and independent already… but please still let me rock you before bed each night, and hold your hand as we read books. Please don’t stop wanting to rub noses together and then hug tightly, and if you could hang on to the fact that you think I am the best person in the world for as long as possible that would be great too 😉 … And always remember you are still Mommy’s baby..

because today you only turned two.

I love you my sweet girl. Thank you for lighting up our world with your beautiful smile and making us all laugh with your contagious giggle. You have brought us so much joy and are  truly an answer to prayer that we thank God every day for.

Love, Mommy ♥

Oh my this is so good. My daughter just turned 2 in July. It is really a bitter-sweet joy. They grow up so fast.

So sweet! My baby girl turns two in a few weeks and I am so excited but….it really is the beginning of a new phase of her life! It’s bittersweet but more sweet than bitter. I’m just so thankful for the little moments of joy these girls bring to their mommies. 🙂
